“It’s easier to get a prescription for pain pills, than it is to get treatment… ” That’s what a pregnant woman addicted to prescription drugs told me in between tears last spring, and I never forgot it.
When women don’t get treatment for their pain-pill addictions (waiting lists are often months long), they usually end up in jail. And in Tennessee, county jails are overcrowded with women addicted to pain pills sleeping on the floor.
